Hawks Nest State Park is located on 370 acres (150 ha) in Fayette County near Ansted, West Virginia.The park’s clifftop overlook along U.S. Route 60 provides a scenic vista of the New River, some 750 feet (230 m) below. The hydro-electric project tunnel that passes underneath nearby Gauley Mountain was the scene of the Depression-era Hawks Nest Tunnel disaster.. While Hawks Nest is a small quiet town with a small population one of the more spectacular, but simple things to do it get up early and watch the sunrise over the Bennett’s Beach. Being only a short walk from Oceanside Hawks Nest accommodation and a short drive from Tea Gardens, it really is.. It is typically made of sticks and situated in the crook of a tall tree. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a hawk’s nest looks strikingly similar to an eagle’s nest, but it’s significantly smaller. Not only is the overall design of the nest smaller than an eagle’s but hawks also use smaller sticks to construct the nest.
